Congestion,
fire hazard, bad ventilation and poor hygiene are common
accommodation problems for migrant workers in Singapore
and Malaysia. To these Bangladeshi workers who have
just finished a 16-hour day at work, watching Hindi
films on videotapes and having a late dinner before
sleep are the only luxury for them.
Employers of migrant workers in Southeast Asian countries
tend to violate housing and fire-hazards laws when they
squeeze as many workers as they can into one compound.
It helps them to save costs at the risk of the workers
lives.
